Do not see a way to delete a project from PlatfomIO. Can this be accomplished?
Sure. Just delete the project folder that PIO created. To tell you where that folder is placed by default you will need to tell us which OS you are using and whether you are using PIO standalone or in an editor like VSCode or ATOM.
i.e. on windows by default new projects are placed at C:\Users\<user>\Documents\PlatformIO
