PlatformIO options grayed out for ESP32-S3 projects

Using PlatformIO 6.1.4.
I created a new project using ESP-IDF framework. Board selected Espressif ESP32-S3-Box.
When clicking on the alien icon, most of the options are grayed out. Why?
I have tried a couple other ESP32-S3 boards with the same result.

This is a VSCode bug, discussed in All Project Tasks are grayed out, solvable by downgrading VSCode.
