You can in-line overwrite all files in there. Just basically delete everything in toolchain-xtensa except the package.json and copy in a newer xtensa toolchain that has the same folder structure.

Again, at this point it’s easier to not use FreeBSD but some Linux distribution like Ubuntu (in a VM if that’s not an option). Manufacturers like Espressif (and others) hardly release prebuilt binaries for FreeBSD so all the burden would lie on either us or the open source community.
I know. But 1. I have only FreeBSD ecosystem. 2. I try to not to use linux, but when here will no be any other possibility i need to do that as you mention.
