MQTT loop function flagged as not existing

I have a project that uses ESP32_MQTTClient. When building it I ge this error:

src/main.cpp: In function 'void loop()':
src/main.cpp:203:16: error: 'class ESP32_MQTTClient' has no member named 'loop'
203 | mqttc.loop();
| ^~~~
*** [.pio/build/esp32dev/src/main.cpp.o] Error 1

I have tried rebuilding the IntelliSense Index and removing the library from the project and reinstalling. The problem persists. I’m at a loss about what to do next. Any suggestions about how to fix/troubleshoot. This is my .ini file

[env:esp32dev]

I am attempting to program a ESP32- 2432S028 (CYD)

Thanks for any advice

Are you 100% sure about this? There are tons of similiarly named libraries. This one definitely doesn’t have a .loop() member function, see source code.

However, a library named

bertmelis/espMqttClient@^1.7.3

does have that loop function.

Same for this library

plapointe6/EspMQTTClient@^1.13.3

What other functions do you call on that mqttc object? How do you construct that object? You could narrow it down from there, or just try the given libraries.
