Is it safe to use "board = d1_mini_lite" on a d1_mini board?

As title.
D1 mini lite board have 1MB of flash while
D1 mini have 4MB of flash.

Is it safe to build firmware for both boards using the
board = d1_mini_lite
attribute in platformio.ini?

I don’t need the added flash, this is why I’m asking.
