For anyone using VSCode, v0.28.0 of the C/C++ extension has dropped, and should fix the C/C++" tasks unexpectedly provided a task of type "shell" message that started popping up. Plus it brings a some other goodies goodies such as improved code folding support, as well as a bunch of other bugfixes.
You should get this automatically when VSCode does it’s next update check, or you can force it manually via the preferences for the extension.
