Finally, there is support for hardware debugging of AVR 8-bit chips. PyAvrOCD is a GDB server that can connect to all EDBG-based Microchip debuggers (e.g., Atmel-ICE, SNAP, nEDBG, …) and that has been integrated into a fork of platform-atmelavr. A fork of platform-atmelmegaavr will follow. And perhaps, it might become part of mainstream PlatformIO.
